As the central focus of the home, we wanted a large open living space, for easy circulation, cooking together and entertaining friends
Kate and Simon’s wishes.
Originally from New Castle, Kate and Simon have set up home in Warrington with their three children, Tilly, Martin and Theo.
For this foodie household, the top priority was a large, functional and chic kitchen, opening onto the lounge and dining room. Another important criterion was a large table which could seat all five of them, and at which they could entertain guests and even work.
It was a question of combining three things: space, style and convenience.
The kitchen designer’s viewpoint: Amanda
To create this family kitchen, Amanda, Mobalpa’s designer, first drew up a large wooden worktop (natural ash oak colour) forming a central island.
The idea, which the couple loved, was to combine it with a matt black cooking unit. A suspended hood in the same colours was also fitted, to add an airy, designer touch to their new kitchen, completed with an island.
Result: this subtly designed, made-to-measure fit-out is the perfect response to Kate and Simon’s love of the matt black kitchen, displayed in our showroom.
A vast, elegant preparation area
By opting for black units and appliances, the couple’s aesthetic preference was further strengthened, right down to the walls' blue-grey colour. Across the whole width of the room, the long Fenix Ingo black worktop blends with the Melia matt black varnished fronts.
An optimised preparation area, essential for cooking as a family.
The storage units
A block of tall units with internal drawers adds cachet to this kitchen and dining area. It is also very practical for storing groceries, as are the drawers with integrated Soline stainless-steel finish handles. And the little detail that makes all the difference on a daily basis? A wastebin has been integrated next to the sink and the dishwasher. And to stash all those things you don’t want on display, lots of cupboards have been provided, in addition to the storeroom.
What are the stand-out features of Sophie’s fit-out?
The harmonious combination of materials, the optimisation of space, and the practicality of the layouts. As such, the whole family can get together in the kitchen after work or on weekends.
While Martin prepares dessert, Kate cooks on the hob, Theo empties the dishwasher and Simon sets the table. Thilly, meanwhile, can finish her homework on the large table of the central island.
At Kate and Simon’s house, everyone is part of the kitchen team, each with their own place and daily task. Next day, the roles are reversed and they start again, depending on the mood of the moment.
Two bathrooms, two different trends
Pleased with her kitchen, Kate also commissioned Mobalpa to create her bathrooms. Two beautiful spaces oozing elegance and practicality, perfectly suited to a large family.
A made-to-measure office under the stairs
The made-to-measure office, perfectly integrated into the dining room, has been designed to fit under the stairs.
A space created with a large working area for two, closed cupboards for storing files, and decorative open-shelf units which lend rhythm to the overall layout.
