A small kitchen open to the living room

"A small kitchen opening onto a lounge"

An optimised kitchen with harmonious and comfortable living spaces
What is so special about this fully-fitted new apartment? Its modernity is set amidst the Baroque history of the city of Lyon. How to design all the rooms as a continuation of the kitchen, while also optimising circulation, light diffusion and storage?

The customer’s vision can be summed up in 4 words: sobriety, simplicity, fluidity and natural.

Not enough room for a central island? A movable side table can act as a dining area. And to give the kitchen upward movement, there are wall units with a lifting system, integrated spotlights and a built-in hood. A vertical unit creates a break along the longest section of wall.

Elegant and masculine tiling has been chosen to dress the wall panel. And the TV unit is in at an angle with regard to the kitchen base units. How do you mark the change of space? By opting for a beige tone that contrasts with the white.

Creation of made-to-measure separating units

To mark the limit between the lounge and bedroom, an open/closed unstructured totem was created allowing light to pass through. The wooden open shelf units and handleless storage provide sobriety and functionality on the lounge side.

Designing a small kitchen open to the living room

"An optimized kitchen and harmonious spaces, to live the life I had imagined"

Unique like you.

The customer's desires.

It is in his new apartment, entirely arranged that we discover the customer. Particular sign about the apartment? Its modernity is in keeping with the baroque history of the City of Lights. From the bay window, the terrace or the garden, a listed wall of the old Carthusian cloister proudly offers itself to the view of its new neighbor. A heritage that also needed to be enhanced by the creation of a small kitchen open to the living room.

The problem entrusted to the Mobalpa designer? To think of all the rooms in the continuity of the kitchen, while optimizing circulation, diffusion of light and storage. A project that also had to meet the customer's expectations in terms of sobriety, simplicity, fluidity and naturalness.

The opinion of the kitchen designer

How to arrange a small kitchen in a compact living space of 50 m2, with an open bedroom and living room? First of all, the designer suggested that the common thread should be the Mélia model in white with a matte varnish chosen by the customer. The facades are found in the kitchen, living room, bedroom and bathroom, bringing coherence to the whole apartment.

A pure kitchen as a starting point

Since the limited space did not allow for a central island, the mobile pedestal table solution was naturally chosen for the dining area. High storage units with a lift-up system, integrated spotlights and a built-in hood give the kitchen an airy feel. And a vertical cabinet creates a break on the longest side of the wall. To cook, an induction cooktop and a combined microwave oven were chosen as a space-saving solution. The recommended decorating touch for a small open kitchen? The beige niche that gives life to the space while recalling those of the living room.

Finally, integrated into the extension of the kitchen's sliding base units, a staggered TV cabinet was also made in shades of beige, to mark the change of universe.

Creation of custom partitioning elements

To meet the customer's initial request to separate the living room from the bedroom, the designer designed an unstructured open/closed element with wooden niches and functional storage units without handles on the living room side. Designed as a filter, this "totem" sets the tone for the room while letting the light through. Finally, a solid oak screen made by a Mobalpa partner delimits the space between the living room, the kitchen and the bedroom. A decorative element which, while warming the room, finds its full utility.

A design even in the bathroom

Behind the bedroom closet, the bathroom keeps all its promises. Italian shower, vanity with sliding drawers in beige reminiscent of the TV cabinet, numerous full-height storage units in white matte varnish, as in the kitchen, the living room and the adjoining bedroom. Not to mention the discreet integration of the washing machine. We should also emphasize the refinement of the copper-colored mixer tap. The result is a sleek and elegant bathroom, in the image of the entire apartment.
